EGST was jointly founded in 1997 by the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY), the Ethiopian Kale Heywet Church (EKHC) and the Evangelical Churches Fellowship of Ethiopia (ECFE). The founding vision was born from the growing need, perceived within the Ethiopian Evangelical churches, for contextually relevant, graduate level theological education in Ethiopia. 2007 marked the 10th anniversary of the founding of the School.
EGST opened its doors to the first students in January 1998. Since then it has graduated over 117 students. Virtually all of the English-language theological schools in Ethiopia are staffed in part by EGST graduates. EGST graduates also serve churches in various capacities, from pastoral ministry to denominational leadership.

Ground breaking ceremony for campus development project |
|
EGST is an interdenominational and international School that serves as the post-graduate school associated with the Mekane Yesus Seminary (MYS) and the Evangelical Theological College (ETC). EGST is currently a candidate for accreditation with the Accrediting Council for Theological Education in Africa (ACTEA). A team from ACTEA visited EGST at the beginning of September 2009 to evaluate the School and determine if it merits accreditation. Their report is awaited. It is also seeking validation by a reputable institution.
From humble beginnings in limited shared accommodation, EGST now looks forward to a purpose built campus with the launch of a 23 million EB campus development project. We praise the Lord for all that God has done over the past 12 years, but most of all for what he continues to do through the lives and ministries of our graduates.
